The idea of using hard armor is not a new one, it has been around for ages as some of the most durable and resilient pieces of armor in the known world. Hard armor is referred to as’armour’ or’resistance’ because of its incredible tensile strength which would make even the strongest of modern-day armored soldiers in the world’s strength redundant if not for this durable material. However, with the use of vests for protection, such as Scorpion tanks, the concept of this type of armor became obsolete. Some tank manufacturers have recently started reintroducing the concept of hard armor in their tanks for modern purposes and to address some of its weaknesses such as the limited maneuverability it enjoys. Another advantage is that since it is only composed of steel, it is considerably less weight compared to other types of armor.
Although very tough and capable of handling the toughest bullets and other objects (such as the ones used against vehicle tanks), it is still vulnerable to being punctured. Because of this, the original use of hard armor was for its bulletproof qualities. With the introduction of softer, less dense materials such as kevlar, it was found that it could significantly increase the armor’s resistance to being punctured by bullets. For this reason, it was often used for bulletproof vests. Although it is capable of handling rounds from various calibers, it is advisable to use different ammunition so you can reduce its reactive nature to a minimum level.
A vest that is composed entirely of hard armor is also better against energy weapons such as laser and high caliber gun fire. This is because these energy weapons tend to generate a lot of heat in contact with the hard armor. This makes it much harder for the vest to retain its structure while retaining its safety features such as bulletproof coating. As a result, a good vest must be able to withstand at least temperatures of -40 degrees C to -50 degrees C. To make sure that your body heat remains constant during the course of your outdoor activities, you can opt to use a cotton or wool-based textile material for your carrier. Soft armor carriers are more flexible and are easier to maintain and clean, but both types of armor have their own advantages.
